A house, in the old sense.

A merchant you could return to, year after year, because what it sold was chosen and what it promised was kept. Mankial is that idea, carried online and taken seriously.

Why it matters

Buying used to mean buying from someone. A shop had a name over the door, a person behind the counter and a reputation it could not afford to lose. Most of what people buy online now arrives from a listing with no one behind it. The thing is fine or it is not, and nobody is answerable either way.

We think the old arrangement was better, and that it can be rebuilt with the tools we have now. Fewer things, chosen with care. Stock we hold ourselves. A listing that says who is selling. A reply when you write. None of this is new. Most of it has simply been forgotten.

What we hold to

Bought properly
From makers and their appointed distributors, invoiced, with a paper trail. Never the grey market.
Used first
Every piece is lived with before it is listed. If it does not pass, it is not sold.
Held here
Our own stock, in the United Kingdom, dispatched the day you order.
Described exactly
Titles, images and specifications describe what arrives. Nothing more.
Answered by a person
Within one working day, by someone who can act.

How we work

We are in London and we hold our stock in the United Kingdom. We sell through Amazon, eBay and this house, with the same things, the same prices and the same manners on each. We add to the range only when something has earned its place, and we would rather be known for a few things done well than for many done adequately.

Correspondence

If you make something you are proud of, or you would like to be told when the range opens, write to us.
